Veitchi Flooring was delighted to contribute to the construction of the Louisa Jordan Hospital at the SECC Glasgow. Responding instantly to a request from our Main Contractor partner Robertson Construction the team laid 13,000 square meters of Polyflor slip resistant vinyl in just 4 days. Working 24 hours per day in shift patterns we were able to complete our part of this fantastic project quicker than expected enabling other trades to get involved sooner and allowing the two-week overall build to be met.
This was a challenging project from a logistics perspective but under the direction of our inhouse health and safety manager Steven McKenna we established a safe protocol for working in these challenging conditions.
This involved seeking written permission that the site was categorised as “Essential” per government COVID 19 guidance. Preparing our own site specific COVID 19 management plan as well as reviewing the operating plan developed by Robertson our main contractor client and proactively working with them to prepare the workforce for a safe return to work. A senior Group representative visited site prior to commencement to check that it was satisfactory for attendance by our operatives and daily health and safety visits were carried out during construction to ensure that risk assessment methodology was being complied with.
A special thanks go to Gareth Allan and his team of floor layers who all volunteered for the task without hesitation.
The Group have carried out further Essential works at Golden Jubilee Hospital, Aviemore Health Centre, Project Grant and RAF Lossiemouth working with several main contractors and ensuring that our rigorous health and safety methodology has been followed at each site keeping our workforce as safe as possible in the current climate.
